A Worthy Vessel

Text: 2 Timothy 2:20
"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour."

In the days of old, the house of God or the sanctuary had different calibers of vessels that were used in the service of God. Some vessels were made of brass, some of gold and some of silver but regardless of the material used, every vessel had its primary function in God’s sanctuary. In our dispensation, scripture tells us that we have become the tabernacle of God and the vessel of interest. Our spirit, mind, body and all that we have are the vessel of interest to God.

What then qualifies a man to be a worthy vessel? The next verse from our opening scripture reads If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. This implies that if any man would be a worthy vessel, qualified and meet for God’s use, that man must undergo purging which is also known as sanctification.

Sanctification is the spiritual process that enables you to be valued as a vessel of honour, a worthy vessel. It grants us the qualification to be used by the master who is God. What this means is that no matter how much you desire and pray to be used by God, if you do not undergo sanctification or purging, you cannot qualify as a vessel fit for the masters use. Tomorrow, we go deeper into this subject matter.
