Contend!!!

Text: Matthew 11:12
"And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. "

The very first interactions I had with this scripture brings back funny memories, for days on end I kept wondering what the Lord must have been trying to communicate. What exactly did God want us to do? Do we start exhibiting violence wherever we go because the scripture says we have to be violent? Thisband many more thoughts plagued my mind as I pondered on this scripture. Looking back now, I understand why scripture says the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life (2 Corinthians 3:6b).

Without the inspiration of the holy spirit, this scripture is one that would be greatly misunderstood or worse, still greatly under utilized. As I grew in my walk of faith, I began to understand what the Lord was communicating through our opening verse and it was quite simple; a call to CONSTANT CONTENTION.

That scripture clearly tells us that there is a need for the God child to constantly contend, as the kingdom we have been brought into is one that is constantly under contention and it has been this way for ages. A God child who doesn’t realize this will constantly be a victim of the violent forces contending for this kingdom and it’s bounties as well as we learned in previous diets.

We must realize that whenever God gives us His word of blessing, promise, promotion, etc, we must contend for it because there are forces that are violent enough to ensure these blessings are never manifested in our lives.

One tool of contention God has given to us is PRAYER. This is why a believer cannot do without an active and fiery prayer life. For every of God’s promises over your life, you must prayerfully engage and keep declaring those promises into fruition. When God gives a word over you, don’t go to sleep believing they will miraculously manifest themselves. Start contending over them, therein lies your total and complete victory.
