Guard Your Heart

Text: Proverbs 4:23
"Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life."

The life that we experience today is not different from the things our hearts have accumulated over the years and this means that we have some level of responsibility and authority to determine what our lives become. Sometimes, there are many that feel like they cannot determine what life brings, they are unsure of what life will bring and in many cases, we don’t have control of many things but there are certain things the Bible tells us that we can exert authority through God’s word and one of it is the direction of our lives.

The Bible clearly tells us in our opening text to guard our hearts because the issues of life stem from it. You cannot become farther than what your heart has become. The things that you’ve gone through or experienced in life are not far reached from the things your heart has accommodated.

In 2 Corinthians 10:5b, scripture says and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Isn’t it amazing that the Bible says to bring to captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ meaning that we do not ignore thoughts. We have to find ways to subject our thoughts to align with a higher thought.

What this means is that if you don’t understand who God has made you, the promises and covenant of God over your life, there are many things that will happen to you that you won’t be able to exert authority over even though you can and should but when you begin to realize your covenant place with God, the blessings of God over your life, there are things that will happen that you will take them to captivity in your heart and subject them to Christ.
