Identifying Your First Fruit

Text: 2 Samuel 24:24(MSG)
"But the king said to Araunah, "No. I've got to buy it from you for a good price; I'm not going to offer God, my God, sacrifices that are no sacrifice.""

As we learned yesterday, every New Year is an increase for the Child of God. And as the Lord blesses you with such increase, the first day, salary and profit for you is your first fruit. In our opening text, you see, David realized that giving to the Lord can be painful and difficult; you will sometimes sacrifice your comfort to give to the Lord. The king James rendering says “I cannot present burnt offerings to the Lord my God, such that have cost me nothing”.

Today, we want to be able to identify what our firstfruit is for every cadre that God’s people fall into. For workers or salary earners, your first fruit is the first of your salary for the year. For The self-employed or entrepreneur, it is the profit gotten from the first service you render or first sales of the year. For the irregular Wage Earner, it is the income gotten from the first work done in the year and for the student, your first fruit is the first of your allowance at the beginning of a session.

Recognize that every act of giving in the house of God is an act of Faith. Resolve in this year that your financial commitments and partnership with the Lord are going to be worth the expectations you have. Remember, God is not interested in the quantity, He is interested in the quality of your giving irrespective of what you have and He is equally interested in your faithfulness and total obedience.
