A Cheerful Giver
When it comes to giving in the kingdom, many believers seem to frown at it. Some think it’s just a scheme for supposed churches to rob them of their “hard-earned money”. What they don’t understand is that God is more interested in blessing and prospering them than they are interested in the Blessing of God. In fact, God is the greatest giver there is evidenced by the gift of Himself in the person of Jesus.
The Bible tells us about a certain man called Solomon, David’s son, who gave to the Lord in so much that God had to appear to him and gave him a blank cheque. Amazingly, Solomon asked only for wisdom and God gave him a level of wisdom that was unrivaled in his time. Even beyond wisdom, God blessed him with great riches and wealth.
I love the amplified rendering of our opening scripture. It says ‘Let each one [give] as he has made up his mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving]. Giving to the Lord is an act of honor, do not let your mind become embattled with the monetary value. The quality of your giving is what matters not the quantity.
