Light Bearers: AN EXAMPLE

Text: Revelation 11:15
"“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” "

To begin this interesting discussion on being light bearers for the Kingdom of God, let us learn from the story of a man called John Knox. John Knox was a man born in the 15th century in Scotland, he was Scottish. At some point in John Knox’s life, he found Christ just like many Christians today including you reading this diet. In the days of Knox, Scotland was filled with iniquity and the people did not have regard for the gospel. When Knox grew up, he decided that he would cause a change in his time. He chose to become a light bearer and show the true light of Jesus across Scotland. Another remarkable thing about John Knox is that he was a man of prayer. John Knox prayed to God in these exact words: “Lord give me Scotland or I die.” John Knox prayed so much that it was recorded that God used him to bring about the reformation of the Church in Scotland and the transformation of the nation. He is known to be the leader of the Scottish Reformation.

This is the power of a man in prayers. Not only did he bring the Church back to righteousness, but he also inspired a national transformation, so much so that Queen Mary (The then queen of Scotland) said “I fear the prayer of John Knox more than the entire armies of Scotland.”

The life of John Knox shows us a blueprint of what God wants us to do. Our opening text is simply God’s agenda for the Church in these last days. God’s kingdom at some point will have to grow and reign on the earth. How will this happen? These are the things we will be learning in the next few days.
