Light Bearers:(The Foundation III)

Text: 1 Peter 1:22
"“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:” "

We learned yesterday that the three dimensions of love are: Love for God, love for the brethren, and love for the unchurched. Today we will learn about love for the brethren.

When the Bible talks about loving the brethren, scripture begins to indicate to us that this level of love can be feigned, and can be impure. Something important about loving the brethren is that it can be feigned, meaning that it can be corrupted. One of the enemy’s targets is to corrupt the love that we have one for another, that is fellow believers.

The devil seeks to attack the love of God’s people. At some point, you find Christians getting really offended and unwilling to forgive.

Finally, 1 John 3:16 – 17 says “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”

You cannot love God well enough, and not love the brethren. Make up your mind that no root of bitterness will find expression in your life by reason of offences that may arise from loving the brethren
