Qualities Of A Disciple

Text: Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

The first quality of a disciple is that a disciple follows. In John 10:27, Jesus said ‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me’. However, at the point of followership, it’s not yet clear if that person is a true disciple because people can follow someone for the sake of admiration but when something throws them off, they pull back.

A true disciple believes in the one he/she follows while the one who is merely a follower is unwilling to pay the price for discipleship. Every disciple is willing to pay the price. A mere follower acts like a disciple when everything seems to be going well but the true test of discipleship is to see how you stand when it is not convenient.

Another quality of a disciple is that a disciple will grow in love. There are 3 levels of love a disciple must appropriate in his/her life. One is the love for God which is the Genesis of the love journey. When you look at the old testament, there were no disciples per se but there were men who genuinely loved the Lord and that inspired their walk with God.
