Qualities Of A Disciple: LOVE II

Text: John 13:34
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

As the disciple appropriates his love for God, that love has to reflect and overflow to the place where you begin to have love for people, genuine love for people. This is love that is executed without motive or intention. Take a case study with Jesus. Jesus came to save us and to do that, He had to die for us. The funny thing is that Jesus had no guarantee that we were going to give our lives to Him if He should die for us but He did it regardless. The bible tells us that while we were yet in sin, Christ died for us. Glory to God!

You cannot be a disciple and not have genuine love for people. Yes, love opens you up to hurt, in fact it is inevitable but then just like Jesus who had no assurance that we would come to Him but yet went all the way to the cross, the most shameful death, we as God’s people have got to genuinely love men because through love, we show the way to Jesus.

The third dimension is love for the things of God. The love for God and the love for the things of God are not the same. Most believers have love for God but they don’t have love for the things of God. Some have been so misled in the walk of faith that they truly love God but they criticize the things of God. They are quick to criticize and speak negatively about God’s people.

Another set of persons claim to love God but they have a problem with the church of Jesus Christ. The church is the body of Jesus and Jesus is the head of the church. You cannot love just the head of someone or just their face. The love for the things of God is such that you will protect and stand for the greater good, the things of God will be a priority in your life.
