Text: Isaiah 40:31
"“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” "

Yesterday, we saw that the first form of waiting on the Lord is to wait for the coming of the Lord. But our opening text talks to us about a different type of waiting.

What does it mean to wait upon the Lord – a God we haven’t seen with our physical eyes? The Bible says in Lamentations 3:25 “The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” To wait on the Lord simply means to seek after the Lord. Jesus speaking in Matthew 5:6 said “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” These are those that seek the Lord from their inside. The believer that really wants to wait on the Lord begins to prepare himself to seek after the Lord.

The word ‘wait’ comes from a Hebrew word ‘qâvâh’ which means to entwine. In other words, to bind something together. So, the Bible actually says they that bind themselves together with the Lord shall renew their strength. This tells us that whenever we decide to start seeking the Lord, we’re already taking steps to joining ourselves with Him.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:17 “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” This scripture shows that it is possible for a man (mortal) to be joined to the Lord. Most believers don’t recognise that whenever we set out to seek after the Lord, we begin to join ourselves with Him. It’s like when a man and woman begin to communicate with the heart that their relationship can graduate to the place where they are legally married. That’s what it looks like in the Spirit when we begin to seek after the Lord.
