The Gift Of Righteousness

Text: Romans 5:17
"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ."

The preceding verse of our opening scripture tells us that there is a gift that comes by grace. Grace is not the gift, but the gift was received by grace. This gift is called the gift of righteousness and scripture says that they that have received this gift shall reign in life. We understood earlier that there is such that silently controls things in the kingdom which is not faith but righteousness. Righteousness wields a special place of authority in the kingdom of God. There are many things in the life of the believer that cannot be actualized by the spirit of God in the absence of righteousness. Therefore, an understanding of righteousness is paramount.

The bible says in Hebrews 1:8 that the sceptre of the throne of the son is the sceptre of righteousness. Jesus was the first to be revealed as the son of God, he is the first begotten son of God and being the son, Jesus operated by righteousness not faith. What is faith? Faith is what the believer needs to believe God, Jesus was and is God and therefore did not require faith to operate on the earth.

There are 2 things that scripture shows us that Jesus operated by. One is compassion and the second is righteousness. Scripture says in 1 John  2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Hallelujah! The bible says in Romans 1:4 that this Jesus was declared to be the son of God according to a spirit called the spirit of holiness which is the very nature of God and that is why it says in Romans 5:18-19 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
