The Holy Place: Table of Shew Bread
Yesterday, we started learning about the holy place which is the second compartment of the Tabernacle and we learned yesterday that the holy place had 3 contents, the table of shew bread, the candlestick, and the table of incense. Today, we want to look at the table of shew bread and its significance in our dispensation because as believers, we are now the tabernacle of the Lord.
The table of shew bread had on it twelve loaves of bread signifying the twelve tribes of Israel. These loaves of bread were made by a certain clan of the tribe of Levites, and it was their responsibility to always ensure that there was always shew bread available on that table. Scripture also tells us in Leviticus 24:8-9 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.
We see that after the shewbread was set before the Lord, the priests which were Aaron, and his sons were to eat it in the holy place, and it was a perpetual stature for them. Popular scripture in Revelations 1:6 tells us that we have been made Kings and priests unto our God. Bread for us in our dispensation is the WORD OF GOD. Jesus speaking in Matthew 4:4 said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Hallelujah! Our shewbread is the Word of God that we chew on in our place of devotion and every time we have the privilege to hear the word of God.
