The Mystery Of Unleavened Bread

Text: Exodus 12:17
"And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever."

The feast of unleavened bread which came by instruction to the children of Israel from Moses was to be by an ordinance forever. That is, it outlived their generation at the time they received it. This shows that its order and significance had an eternal value because it is to be kept by an ordinance forever. Whenever God identifies a thing to be forever, that means it has an eternal value, a value beyond the physical.

The mystery of unleavened bread is the first revelation of consecration for God’s people. It is called unleavened because it hasn’t been mixed with anything that will affect its purity. God is very much interested in our purity. Scripture in 1 Corinthians 5:6-7 shows us how particular God is with unleavened bread and not leavened bread, because God’s idea of leavening has to do with contamination. Thus, God said we should purge out the old leaven to become a new lump.

No wonder Jesus said that we should be wary of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees (Matt 16:6). These being doctrines that are not in line with the will of God. For scriptures equally lets us know that a little leaven, a little contamination, a little spot leavens or contaminates the whole lump (1 Corinthians 5:6).

God’s message with unleavened bread was and is still is our consecration for our purity. That is his hidden message behind the idea of unleavened bread. In the mystery of unleavened bread is entrapped so many ordinances of heaven. As we go further in this discourse, we will get to know what these ordinances are and how they are manifested in our dispensation.
