The Outer Court: Brazen Altar(Part II)
Yesterday, we started looking at the brazen altar which is a major component of the outer courts. Our opening text shows us something about the brazen altar, having horns which are present on the four corners of the altar. The altar itself is about 4 and half feet high which is shorter than the height of men. A child cannot successfully hold the horns of that altar but a man can, however, men don’t approach the horns standing. The only way to lay hold of the horn as a mature person and be successful is to kneel down. Scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways. It therefore means that prayer is a sign of humility to God.
In the time of the children of Israel, sacrifices on the brazen altar produced a smoke, a savour which ascended to God by reason of the burnt sacrifices offered on the altar. In our day and time, the bible tells us that our bodies are the living sacrifices we offer. We no longer have need for the blood of bulls or goats. The blood of Jesus became the once and for all sacrifice hence no other is needed. However, the means by which we offer sacrifice on the brazen altar in this day is in the place of prayer.
In our day, we offer 2 specific sacrifices that produce the savour which satisfies every other sacrifice the children of Israel made in their day. 2 Corinthians 2:15 reads For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. So there is a savour that we emit to God on a daily basis and this savour is premised on 2 sacrifices that we offer in our time. The sacrifice of Prayer and the sacrifice of Praise.
