The Outer Court:LAVER
The outer courts had 2 very important contents which were the LAVER and the BRAZEN ALTAR. The laver as seen in our opening scripture was made of brass and was made for the priests, that’s Aaron and his sons to wash their hands and feet before offering any sacrifice. You may be wondering how this relates to you as a believer but remember, scripture tells us that Jesus has made us priests and Kings unto God our father. There is a priestly and kingly office you hold over your own life.
Worthy of note is the instruction God gave concerning the laver and what is to be done there. Exodus 30:20-21 reads When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD: So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
The instruction was for the priests to wash before offering any sacrifice. What this symbolizes for us is our cleanliness. God was so particular with them washing themselves first before approaching so they don’t die. God is equally particular about our cleanliness.
There is a popular saying that cleanliness is next to godliness. It may sound cliche but there is a truth in it if not, God wouldn’t have demanded for it. Before Joseph appeared before Pharoah to give him the interpretation to his dream, he had to go clean himself first. How much more the King of kings? Your cleanliness matters to God and you’ve got to be intentional about keeping yourself and your environment clean before having your time of devotion with the Lord.
