The Root Of Bitterness:(Part II)

Text: Hebrews 12:15
"Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled."

The preceding verse of our opening scripture says Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. This may be hard to swallow but recognize that when you came to the Lord, you were stripped of all the rights to your life. Offences are bound to happen even in the body of Christ, Jesus said so in Luke 17:1. The issue is not the offence but what you do with that offence. You can choose to hold on to it and nurture it until it consumes you or you can forgive and let go.

When you hold on to offences, it incapacitates you and prevents you from effecting the word of God in your life because it defiles you from within. When the devil sees you making progress on the road to success and knows he cannot get you directly, he throws salient attacks. They don’t come from outside but from within and are even justifiable by others. You can be so hurt and offended by someone and everyone you narrate the story to will actually say that it is a big deal but then, to what end?

As a God child, you should be able to define who your enemy is and scripture has clearly showed us who that is and what he focuses on is not the hurt but the denial of the grace of God by the hurt. He wants you to hang unto that hurt until you lose everything that you would have obtained from the Lord. You cannot hold strong to a hurt and it heals. It doesn’t matter what anyone does to you, it doesn’t matter how painful, choose to forgive and let go. Forgiveness is not for the one who offended you, forgiveness is for you, the God child.
