The Spirit Of The World
Our opening text tells us that we have not received the spirit of the world. This means that we have received something. We’ve got to realise that we’ve received something, then we have to start understanding what we have received. The Bible recognises that we have received the Spirit which comes from God. We are not about to receive Him but have already received Him.
The spirit of the world is the spirit that runs in the children of disobedience. Ephesians 2:2 says “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” The spirit of the world is a huge problem in the church. Sometimes the church walks with the spirit of the world without knowing it. This is more so because this spirit may not make you sin outrightly, rather it makes you deviate from the will of God. It moves a Godchild out of the will of God and moving out of the will of God simply means to move out of the Word of God.
In other words, the spirit of the world makes you shift grounds from the standard of the Word of God. A lot of Christians that operate with the spirit of the world may not have committed a sin but they have shifted grounds and this has huge implications in their lives.
