Retain The Word

Text: Hebrews 2:1
"Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip."

The devil knows the potential of the Word of God in the heart and mouth of a believer. For this reason, the devil would do all he can to ensure that he extracts the Word from a believer. The devil is a thief who comes to steal the Word of God from the heart of a Christian. Jesus told us the parable of the sower how that the devil comes to steal the Word of God. Jesus said “ When any one heareth the word of the Kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side” Matthew 13: 19.

You see, whenever the Word of God is not effectively sown and retained in your heart, the devil comes to steal it. The first sentence of our opening text says, “We ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard”. Recognize today that it is not God’s responsibility to ensure that the Word remains in our hearts, it is our responsibility. The scriptures in Joshua 1: 8 tells us how to retain the Word. “ This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”  To retain the Word, keep the Word in your mouth and keep meditating on the Word as you obey it. Refuse to allow the devil steal from you. The power of God in you as a believer is the Word of God in your heart and in your mouth. Refuse to lose the Word.
