Why Devotion?

Text: 1 John 1:3
" That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ"

For the past couple of days, we have been dealing with the topic of devotion which is very essential for every believer who wants to grow and mature in his walk of faith. We learned that Christian devotion is the act of having a personal and intimate fellowship with God. It is not playing Christian songs or listening to Christian radio. It is not engaging in church activities or general prayers neither is it discussing God or the bible with other believers. It must be a special time between you and the Lord.

There is a popular saying that when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. We have got to understand the need for consistent personal fellowship with the Lord because when we do, then can we be able to follow through with consistency.

Recognize that your personal time of fellowship is as important if not more than the corporate fellowship with other believers. Your ability to receive in the corporate gathering of believers is dependent on your receiving in your time of devotion and you sustain your release or whatever God has blessed you with by your consistent devotion.

Furthermore, the human spirit was designed to operate best in the presence of God. Our human spirit achieves its best in the presence of God and consistent devotion is what ushers and offers you the presence of God. It is the secret to spiritual sustenance, growth, and victorious Christian life. Remember, the spirit of God in us is that which proceeds from the Father and can only be sustained by the Father hence the need for fellowship. Tomorrow, we will delve more into the need for devotion.
